“Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance.” – Roy T. Bennet

Masks

the heaviness of silver and gold on your face and

robbing you of joy and for all of your pain it

will not go away and for all of your strength it

will not melt away

the way i see it you are on your own the

many years of anguish have taken their toll and

the mask that you wear is a part of who you’ve become and

part of you just won’t let it go

when you strain against it forever hold fast for

your skin and your bones have entwined with the mask and

to lose it would mean losing part of your flesh but

part of your flesh must go

you pull and you worry til the whites of your eyes are

all i can see and then nothing at all while

metal and blood are flecks on your palm and

metal and blood are read on your palm

and you strain against it but it forever hold fast for

your skin and your bones have entwined with the mask and

to lose it would mean losing part of your flesh but

part of your flesh must go and you

strain against it but not even half will

become unattached from the expression you have and

everything else has been freed but your soul it

forever remains below it

forever remains below

The Dawn

i am running off the pages

ink spilling off the edge

the farthest reach of my existence

a few more turns until the end

you’ve yet to open all my secrets

thoughts on people i have met

and no one’s read beyond my preface

or even tried to understand

for this is the story of sleepless nights

and words poured out from the inside

of wishful thinking and wounded eyes

a mind controlled by the darkest lies

i am running out of reasons

to hide away until my death

bloodstained and carried through the seasons

no longer can i pretend

for this is the story of sleepless nights

and words poured out from the inside

of wishful thinking and wounded eyes

a mind controlled by the darkest lies

yes, this is the story of sleepless nights

and words poured out from the inside

but i confess that i was wrong, i was wrong

the night is spent, this is the dawn

this is the dawn

Shadows

Forgotten places I went through

Every end starts something new

Where I am is lost on you

Maybe letters don’t go this far

With the voices in my head

Saying get up when you’re rested

But if I sleep I’d miss the best parts

And you’d miss my face if you were searching

In the shadows I fall too

Nothing left but claims of truth

Withered hands holding steady

On the rails of happy stories

I admit I can’t look away

Mesmerized by wheels of the ancient

In the shadows I fall too

Nothing left but claims of truth

Charm deceits and beauty’s fleet and

I’m wide awake most every night

In the shadows hide the whispers

All about you, not about me

In the shadows I fall  too

Nothing left but claims of truth

I Don’t Know What To Call It :\

be wise and step softly

count every footprint

the trees are quiet today

look up and see

the skies all the grimmer

and the dark too thick to penetrate

and we wished for it

yeah we called the storm

regretting it

oh we regret

and all of me

was soaking wet

i was soaking wet

forget the silence

the rainfall is louder

my voice goes unheard amongst the noise

but a heart beats and frightens

the thunder away

so sudden with all it has to say

and we wished for it

yeah we called the storm

regretting it

oh we regret

and all of me

was soaking wet

i was soaking wet

be wise and step softly

count every footprint

the trees are quiet today

look up and see

the skies all the grimmer

and the dark too thick to penetrate

The Cloud That Beat The Sun

yes i figure that instead of looking cold

you could put a smile there

and the way i see it my my mind

it would be the best of all

*

or go ahead believing in the story

of the cloud that beat the sun

but you’ll get tired of saying “never”

and you’ll let a “maybe” fall

*

soon you’ll see as well as i

that the air is really warm

and you’ll be staring in the faces

that have come to cheer you on

*

or go ahead believing in the story

of the cloud that beat the sun

and just forget about the colors

of the one that should’ve won

*

like a snail do you wish it on your back

you were carrying your home?

only to abandon every thought

at the slightest hint of snow?

*

but go ahead believing in the story

of the cloud that beat the sun

you should know i’ll be behind you

when you find your time to run

Freefall

They’re not telling me to dive in headfirst

Just to keep my legs straight

Looking out across the water

My audience of blue waves

Crashing on the cliff side

And the sharp rocks beneath me

But the place I have to land in

Is only ten feet deep

~

I’d turn and run and hid but that’d be cowardice

But I know I would die if I did this

I said I would jump but not this distance…

…but they don’t listen…

~

Someone coughs behind me

And I know I am late

They’re waiting on a freefall

That I can’t do in my state

So I take a breath but breathing

I don’t find relaxing

With their eyes completely

Fixated on me

~

I’d turn and run and hide but that’d be cowardice

I know I would die if I did this

I said I would jump but not this distance…

…but they don’t listen…

~

My advice to you is fair

Don’t give in to stupid dares

They weren’t telling me to dive in headfirst

Just to keep my legs straight

Pulse

Can you feel

All the words just like the rain?

When they land they aren’t the same

There they end up in a puddle

You’d waste your time to separate

And the people

In this crowd they won’t confess

To being scared or something less

Than perfectly happy

Moving just like all the rest

Or do I speak for myself

When I say I’m suffocating?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Where is the breathable air

In this space I’m occupying?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Can you feel

The music pulsing through your veins?

Any louder you will faint

How much longer will you suffer?

You’re staying still with all your strength

And the people

With their elbows in your sides

Painful memories in their minds

Want to lose themselves in dancing

And other things you do at night

Or do I speak for myself

When I say I’m suffocating?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Where is the breathable air

In this space I’m occupying?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Everyone wants to say goodbye

But they don’t know how and they don’t know why

You can only stand them for so long

And then the hours lose their fun

Everyone wants to say goodbye

But they don’t know how and they don’t know why

You can only stand them for so long

And then the hours lose their fun

Or do I speak for myself

When I say I’m suffocating?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Where is the breathable air

In this space I’m occupying?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Do I speak for myself

When I say I’m suffocating?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating

Where is the breathable air

In this space I’m occupying?

Enough is enough

Right now I’m relocating
